The Four Principles of Contextual Inquiry

Context, go where the work is and watch it happen.

Partnership, talk about the work while it happens.

Interpretation, find the meaning behind the customer’s words and actions.

Focus, challenge your entering assumptions. If all these concepts start to become overwhelming, go back up to the higher-level idea of apprenticeship.
